Arabian Horse Youth Nationals Offered Activities for Families & Kids of All Ages
The Youth National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show came back to Oklahoma City, where it orig- inally started 23 years ago. Held July 22-29, at the State Fair Park, the show offered ed- ucational and leadership opportunities, as well as social activities for kids of all ages.
Educational Opportunities On July 20, the Thursday before Youth
Nationals began, the Arabian Professional and Amateur Horsemen’s Association (AP- AHA) held its 14th annual clinic hosted by Crystal McNutt and Cheryl Fletcher. Clinics were held from 2-5 p.m. in the Performance Arena and were open to the public. On Thursday, July 20, was Stan Mo-
rey’s Judging School, held in conjunction with APAHA, and hosted by Arabian Horse Association (AHA) Judges & Stewards Commissioner Stan Morey. It was fun to listen to the Commissioner describe the view from center ring!
Arabian horse knowledge was tested at the annual Hippology Contest, sponsored by AHA Region 10. The contest was held on Friday, July 28 in the Sales Arena. Quiz stations challenged kids, teens and adults. During the week of Youth Nationals competitors had an opportunity to give back to the Oklahoma City community by shar- ing their horse knowledge and experience
during the Total Arabian Interactive and Learning (T.A.I.L.) tours. T.A.I.L. is designed to introduce new-
comers to the Arabian horse in a backstage, comfortable setting. Oklahoma City fami- lies, youth groups, 4-H & FFA groups, Girl/ Boy Scouts, and day campers were invited.
Social Activities
Youth Nationals ran for 8 days and in- corporated many social activities for exhib- itors and guests of all ages to enjoy. There was a Parade of Regions themed “Vintage Your Way.” Candy and fun treats were thrown to the spectators and prizes were awarded to exhibitors. There was also a Stick Horse Workshop and Contest where kids created their own stick horse which they rode through center ring for prizes. A Flying Pigs Fundraiser was also held. Toy farm animals were on sale at the AHYA booth for $5 per bag. The kids then flung their pigs and aimed at the target for prizes. For complete results or to learn more
