Youth Spotlight: Kylie Baker

Kylie Baker is a 13-year-old eighth grader at Dripping Springs Middle School, Dripping Springs, Texas. She is involved in American Quarter Horse Association and National Reining Horse Association shows, as well as some smaller regional associations, compet- ing in stock horse and reining classes.

Why horses? My grandparents had horses while I was growing up. Those horses fascinated me, and any time I visited, I wanted to go outside and ride.

Moment you will always remem-

ber? When I won my first saddle with Jessie, less than a year after I got him!

Favorite horse? Hang Ten Jessie, known as Jessie

Favorite event? Reining Role model(s)? My aunt and

grandparents. Their love of horses and riding have influenced my love for hors- es so much. They have taught me to ap- preciate every discipline.

Future plans with horses? I hope to compete as a member of an equestrian team in college, and preferably at Texas A&M University.

Career path you are consider-

ing? I want to be an equine veterinarian. Advice you’d like to give others

with horses? When you go into the

show ring, or even when you are just riding, your mood affects your horse’s mood. For example, if you are relaxed and are not nervous, you will have a bet- ter ride, and you and your horse will be satisfied with your ride. w
