Winter Art & Antiques Fair @ Olympia

31ST OCTOBER-5TH NOVEMBER Quality is key

Also enjoying a resurgence in popularity is 1950s lighting, infl uenced by the space race and atomic research. Look out for Sputnik chandeliers – especially those made in Italy, which now start at around £1,500. There are now dealers who specialise in pieces from the 1950s but fl ea markets, antiques fairs and internet auctions sites are also good hunting grounds for mid-century designs. As with any collecting category, quality is key with vintage furniture. Look for undamaged pieces that have been well cared for, with original fi nishes, hardware and patina if possible. Ask the dealer about the piece’s history and provenance, and ascertain its maker and originality. Remember mass-produced reproductions have been made of almost every style and piece.

The acclaimed Winter Art & Antiques Fair returns to London this October for its 27th year. Running from 31st October-5th November, it is the fl agship art and antiques event of the British winter season set within the iconic setting of London Olympia. This is the only fair in the UK to work in association with the top two trade associations, BADA (The British Antiques Dealers’ Association) and LAPADA (The Association of Art & Antiques Dealers). From 4pm-9pm on 31st October, there will be an exclusive Preview Event where visitors can have a fi rst view of the incredible array of pieces on offer. Ticket prices for Preview Day are £30 while standard advance admission is £15 and £20 on the door.
