ouble Olympic champion and local businesswoman Dame Kelly Holmes will be sharing her experience with mental health at
the inaugural Health and Wellbeing Live show at The Secret Manor, Mabledon in Tunbridge Wells. In addition, Dame Kelly will be bringing her Cafe 1809 and serving delicious snacks and drinks at the show. Health and Wellbeing Live is a brand new two-day event, on Friday 22nd and Saturday 23rd September, giving individuals and families a place to discover more about physical and mental health and wellbeing to help make positive changes to their lives. Dame Kelly will be speaking about motivation, health and mental wellbeing at 11am on the 23rd. Speaking about the forthcoming talk Dame Kelly said: “I am looking forward to sharing my experiences at Health and Wellbeing Live. Looking back, I wonder why I kept my feelings secret for so long. Truth is, the stigma attached to mental health 12 years ago was a massive barrier for me. So I kept quiet: held it in and hid my mental health problems. More and more people, including children, are going through
personal turmoil, many still in silence for fear of the stigma associated with mental health. We must break the silence and shed that stigma once and for all. “Health and Wellbeing Live will be a fantastic forum for people to speak

about and share experiences of mental and physical health and wellbeing. It is so important for us to embrace this opportunity and I hope by sharing my experiences, I can help someone else.” Since her Olympic glory Dame Kelly opened Cafe 1809 in her home village of Hildenborough in December 2014, and opened a sister branch, Cafe 1809 Active, at the Cyclopark in Gravesend in June this year. The name of the cafe represents Dame Kelly’s Olympic running number when she won double gold in Athens in 2004. Health and Wellbeing Live will host
speakers, workshops and exhibitors from across the spectrum of mental and physical health and wellbeing, all in one place. With no other event like this for people local to Tunbridge Wells, it will be an experience for individuals and families to discover more about physical and mental health and wellbeing, to help make positive changes.
