BRIGHTON COLLEGE
Kindness, compassion, educational curiosity and a determination to engage in the wider world – these are the qualities that parents most remark upon when they describe pupils at Brighton College. The south coast independent school has become well known for academic achievements that place it consistently in the top 10 schools in England but
Headmaster Richard Cairns feels strongly that the girls and boys who come to Brighton are able to flourish individually. At Brighton, girls and boys explore their talents and discover new passions on the sports field, in the jazz band, on the stage, at science club or by joining one of the hundreds of extra-curricular clubs. • For more information, contact admissions on 01273 704201 or email

One small step for... Roffa! King’s Rochester Preparatory School recently launched a teddy bear called Roffa into space after the Civil Aviation Authority granted clearance. Intrepid Roffa was tied to a large weather balloon filled with helium and launched from the school’s playing field. The whole journey was recorded with an attached GoPro camera and as he soared up into the stratosphere the most amazing footage was captured of the curvature of the earth, taking in the Thames Estuary, the Isle of Wight and even across the English Channel to France. It is estimated that Roffa reached 30,000
metres and flew 16 miles before the balloon exploded due to altitude pressure and he landed with his parachute in Hadlow, just three miles from where predicted. • Visit
