RSVP / OUT & ABOUT 037 DUKIES HONOUR

CHURCHILL & DE GAULLE Students from the Duke of York’s Royal Military School in Dover played a central part at a special service honouring the roles of Sir Winston Churchill and General Charles de Gaulle in the Second World War. More than 30 pupils braved the wet weather in France to provide a guard of honour and a corps of drums for the unveiling of two statues in Park Richelieu after the school was requested to attend the service by British Embassy officials in Paris. The Rt Hon Sir Nicholas Soames MP PC, Sir Winston’s grandson, took time to inspect the school’s guard of honour and commented on the exceptional quality of the corps of drums. He also spoke with great warmth and knowledge of the school, having visited in 2009 to act as Inspecting Officer for the drill competition parade, and present the Baroness Thatcher Sword of Honour. Lady Soames and Lord Llewelyn, the British Ambassador to France, were also among the senior dignitaries in attendance. • Visit www.doyrms.com

NEW HQ FOR DOVER

COUNSELLING CENTRE Founded 30 years ago in the wake of the Zeebrugge Ferry Disaster, Dover Counselling Centre (DCC) has moved its headquarters to a new building, which was officially opened by renowned TV personality Christopher Biggins when he cut the ribbon at Horizon House in Gordon Road, Whitfield. Such is the heavy demand for DCC’s services, that it was no longer able to meet the needs of an increasing number of clients across the UK from its offices in St James Street, Dover. • Visit www.dovercc.org.uk

MANOR VETERINARY CLINIC OPEN DAY

Manor Veterinary Clinic in Folkestone hosted its seventh fun-packed annual open day, the fourth that Edge Bespoke Picture Framing has had the privilege to support, attend,

promote and sponsor. Staff welcomed dozens of loyal and supportive clients and new visitors who were given the chance to take guided tours and have behind the scenes facilities explained to them.

Every inch of the building was packed with opportunities to play games and win prizes. Even more colour and fun was added by staff member Toni Marsh who flexed her creative talents by painting the faces of any children who would sit still long enough for her to work her magic, transforming them into tigers (and tigresses), spider men and turtles. One of the objectives of the day is to raise funds for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home – and yet again the team smashed all records by raising more than £1,200.
