Radio star visits Sibford
Radio star and author, Christian O’Connell, visited Sibford to talk about his life, career and his debut kid’s book, ‘Radio Boy’. Christian told pupils: “You are the most important people on this planet. You are the future. Enjoy the ride.”
Explaining how he had wanted to be a radio DJ since hearing Steve Wright at the age of 13 he said: “I had a light bulb moment and thought ‘whatever he’s doing I want to do something like that’. It took me 13 years and numerous rejection letters telling me give up on the idea, but I hung on to my goal and got there in the end. You have to keep the dream alive.” Following the talk, which was also attended by pupils from Carrdus School and Wroxton Primary, Christian took part in a book signing session.
As part of their RE topic, the whole of Year 5 walked from Sibford Ferris to Sibford Gower. “We had a lovely walk taking in Holy Trinity Church of England, where we looked at the building and walked around the churchyard,” says Year 5 teacher Katy Stotesbury. “We then journeyed on to the Quaker Meeting House where we took some time for stillness and reflection before thinking about how the inside and outside of the Meeting House differs from other places of worship we have seen and studied.
“The pupils were interested to notice that the graves were all the same, showing the Quaker belief in equality.”

A Level Drama students have enjoyed two theatre trips to London this term.
Christian is pictured with Year 6 pupil Sofia who told him that when she grows up she wants to become a writer.
Year 5 step out on RE walk
In May, they visited the Old Vic in London to see Woyzeck, described as ‘one of the most extraordinary plays ever written’. In June, they were joined by GCSE Drama students when they visited the Globe Theatre to see Romeo and Juliet. The students were also lucky enough to secure tickets to the pre-show lecture given by leading Shakespeare scholars and
supported by Globe actors.
