Castle tour

In preparation for their 2018 GCSE exam, Year 10 pupils were taken to visit Framlingham Castle in Suffolk. Head of History Anna Jo Lawrence said: “One of the units of study the exam will assess is titled ‘Castles: Form and Function c.1000 – 1750’. A different castle is selected each year and for 2018 it is Framlingham Castle.

“The examination board states that it is not necessary for the pupils to have visited the castle, however I was keen to give our pupils this opportunity.” The pupils were given a guided tour of the castle specifically designed by English Heritage for the requirements of the examination.

With results now in the school has achieved a 100% pass rate with nine pupils gain- ing Distinction and six gaining Merits. • Matt is pictured above in a scene from February’s production of Cabaret.

In May, Year 4 pupils enjoyed a one night residential trip to Bath.

The visit reinforced their History topics on the invaders to Britain and provided the children with the chance to appreciate the Roman and Anglo-Saxon ways of life and legacies.

Geography surveys

Year 8 visited Banbury town centre in May to undertake Urban Enquiry Geography Fieldwork.

They were dropped off in

different locations in groups of four to carry out traffic and pedestrian counts and building land use surveys.

Top marks for

Sibford pupil

Sibford pupil Archie has completed his BTEC level 3 Countryside

Management Course with a Distinction*. For his final piece

of work, he joined forces with Year 12 pupil Tom to create an interpretive board for the wild flower habitat in the school. Course tutor Angy Bovill said: “The board explains the importance of wild flower habitats to the success and survival of our native bee population which is very much under threat from the use of the agrochemical neonicotinoid.

“Archie did a fantastic job and is well deserving of such a great result.” • Archie (right) and Tom are pictured with the interpretive board.
