Living adventurously


here is a theme in this newsletter of ‘living adventurously’. Perhaps this should come as no surprise as we have given a good deal of attention to living adventurously during this, our 175th anniversary year. Maggie Guy has adventurous plans for retirement, Curriculum Enrichment Week offered our pupils a fabulous opportunity to take responsible risks with activities they hadn’t previously experienced, and you will read of a Gold Duke of Edinburgh expedition to the Lake District which took pupils (and staff!) outside of their comfort zones. More widely, we are encouraging our pupils to live adventurously in their day to day experiences of life.

Advices & queries 27 tells us: ‘Live adventurously. When choices arise, do you take the way that offers the fullest opportunity for the use of your gifts in the service of God and the community? Let your life speak’. These words say a great deal about the way we approach education at Sibford School. Indeed, back in September I asked our community to think about when they are able to be courageous and adventurous, to try something new, to ‘give it a go’ and be prepared to experience failure as a means to ultimately find success. Resilience is one of our


3Rs (alongside Respect and Relationships) and I am minded that resilience can only be built through determination, hardship and courage.


Over the last year I have spoken to many parents, pupils and prospective Sibford families about what is special about our approach to education.

fundamental to all that we do and, living adventurously, is just one part of the many values which underpin our daily lives.


For our


community this can manifest itself in many different ways. What does a pupil do when they are stuck? Do they simply stop and put their hand up or do they ‘give it a go’? If a school play, sporting event, community/ charitable project, musical event or extra-curricular activity is on offer our pupils are
