competition news Young Pony Club stars on top form
The Cumberland Farmers’ Hunt (South) Branch of The Pony Club sent five members to the Area 2/3/4 Tetrathlon competition hosted by the Zetland Branch of The Pony Club at Stapleton Manor near Darlington over the weekend of 24/25th July.
The competition, which consists of shooting, swimming, cross country running and cross country riding saw competitors from Northumberland, Yorkshire, Cumbria and the Isle of Man battle it out for a place at the national championships later this year. Tetrathlon is open to all ages, and the Branch’s youngest competitor Charlie Hall at just seven years old gained sixth place overall, together with first place in the individual swim phase. Charlie has had a fantastic season at this sport and his growing confidence showed in a clear round in the cross country riding phase. Alexa Weymouth built on her consistent form in the shooting to score 940 out of a possible 1000 points, to give her third place in the shooting phase. Mira Tallentire finished fifth overall in her first year in the 10/11 year old class, and also had a good cross country round. Alex Airey repeated her 2016
victory and again took the top spot in the Junior Girls class, winning the run and the swim too, qualifying for the national championships in August. Aimee Powell-Currie was high up the leader board in the run, shoot and swim phases, but a tricky cross country course just
dropped her out of the placings. CFHS members are trained in shooting by past-member Jon Fletcher, and in cross country riding by Treena Lang and David Wadge. Charlie and Aimee are members of Penrith Swimming Club, and Alex is a member of Cockermouth Swimming Club.
