Eventing at Cumwhinton continues to develop One day eventing has taken place over the established course at Cumwhinton since 2004 and this year’s British
As work to prepare the cross country course for this year’s event gets into top gear, Equine caught up with organiser Peter Bainbridge to find out what challenges await this year’s competitors.
With this year’s British Eventing one day event less than a month away, plans for the ongoing development of the popular Cumwhinton event were laid many month ago and work to prepare the site for this year’s fixture is already well in hand. The cross country course and event layout benefited from significant changes last year and worked well, so this year the changes are less ambitious and more about adding to the enjoyment for both competitors at every level, along with spectators.
Organiser Peter Bainbridge explains: “This will be the 14th running of Cumwhinton Horse Trials and since it began in 2004, our aim has always been to promote and develop the equestrian activities that take place here. “We are planning some upgrades to the cross country course for this year, which will include upgrading of both permanent and portable fences and incorporating some changes in order to ‘freshen up’ the challenge for competitors. “Last year’s event was busy, which everyone will probably remember and by continuing to re-invest in the event infrastructure, we once again expect to welcome competitors from across a wide region. We are also extremely grateful to the dedicated volunteers – around 200 of them – whose
generous commitment of time and expertise is fundamental to the event’s success. Without all of them, Cumwhinton Horse Trials simply couldn’t happen and on behalf of us all, I would like to thank them for their ongoing support.
“The support of sponsors too is of immense importance and we are delighted to welcome back some long standing supporters alongside new brands that will be of interest to everyone at this year’s event. Please do get in touch if you would like your business to join them. “The event is a fun, family friendly day out and easy to reach from anywhere in the region. On behalf of all of those involved with the organisation of the event, we look forward to welcoming you and sincerely hope that everyone who competes, spectates and supports over the weekend thoroughly enjoys the whole experience.”
