British breeders look ahead to Burghley Stallion Parade
The Burghley stallion Parade has become a much-anticipated feature of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. Spectators and potential breeders can see a great selection of the top competition stallions demonstrating their abilities, all approved for breeding with leading studbooks and standing in the UK. This year, the Burghley Stallion Parade will take place at 12.45pm on Friday the 1st September in ring 2. The parade is scheduled to take place in between the four and five- year-old finals of the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse series to help ensure that a relevant young horse audience will be in place. Entries for the Burghley Stallion Parade opened on the 24th July.
All stallions will be featured in the Burghley programme and full details will be handed out ringside, as will copies of British Breeder magazine. So if you are thinking of breeding a future event horse, make sure you take your place ringside for what promises to be an informative stallion spectacular. Fiona Lowrey takes up Senior Training role
Affiliated dressage continues to grow in popularity in our region and as part of plans to increase opportunities for members in the Northern Region, Fiona Lowrey has recently been appointed as the Senior Training Representative. She explains how this will benefit competitors ...

“My role will be to look at training from the beginning of next year, starting with a development plan for Senior Training and then building training around. The aim is to ensure we have events in place that fit in around the major regional competitions to provide support. This will help ensure all riders have the opportunity to attend the required number of training days to enable them to qualify for team selection and mean we can provide test riding opportunities, again ahead of key dates, to provide support and guidance at all levels. “In my own dressage competitive life, I am currently competing at Novice level with my Connemara Hopestown Rock. According to my trainer he has talent, it’s just getting him ‘in the zone’ at competitions which is the challenge! I also compete at dressage to music which I really enjoy. I am currently a trainee judge and have recently passed parts 1 and 2, hopefully taking part 3 later this year! “I have previously been involved in Riding Club Committees and the North East Connemara Society so this is very different and I will be on a big learning curve for the next few months. However I am looking forward to learning more about the region and meeting members and getting their feedback on the events we run in the area. “I would advise anyone thinking about putting themselves forward for teams to go for it if they meet the criteria, as we would welcome their application.
Our training plans for 2018 will provide support from both the committee and trainers. Riders are also welcome to get in touch with any of the regional committee to have a chat. “In the next few months I will be working on development plan for senior training, starting to pull
together key dates for next year and look how the training will fit together around this. This will include speaking to members at events to get feedback and their thoughts on what training means to them and what they want to get out of it. If you see me, come and say hello.”

Replace those electrolytes
When horses work hard, or during hot weather, they regulate their body temperature by sweating. Sweating not only loses fluid as it evaporates, but also essential body salts, particularly sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium. Failure to replace these body salts (known as electrolytes) can result in fatigue, and in extreme cases, damage to muscle, bone and cartilage tissue.
NAF Electro Salts is a concentrated combination of the essential plasma salts in combination with dextrose to aid efficient absorption of the salts. Electro Salts should be fed following exertion, after heavy sweating or during periods of very hot weather. Electro Salts can be given easily in the feed, or dissolved in water. Always ensure a supply of clean fresh water is readily available.
