MEMBER ZONE TOP AWARD FOR CHARITY
HOMES PROVIDED IN UNIQUE AGREEMENT
A unique agreement between a social landlord and council has provided affordable homes for 15 Daventry families. The two and three-bedroom
houses, built across Daventry, have been developed by Futures Housing Group on behalf of Daventry District Council as part of a landmark ten-year agreement between the two organisations. The agreement will see 150
homes developed across the district over the next decade to support the council’s housing need. Futures Housing Group director
Shop manager Bev Horner and volunteers at the DACT Mobility Shop celebrate their success
DACT and its fantastic volunteers have been presented with The Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. The charity was launched in 1993 to provide
community transport services to the district of Daventry DACT chief executive Rob Kinning said: “This is a
fantastic achievement for our volunteers – particularly as we are the only organisation in Northamptonshire to have won this award this year. “We started from nothing 24 years ago and in
2016/17 provided 52,642 trips with volunteer cars, mini buses and mobility scooter use. “None of our achievements would be possible
without our 170 volunteers who give us 60,000 hours of service every year. It is the equivalent of 32 full-time staff members but 32 individuals couldn’t deliver what
we deliver because at any one time we’ll have up to 60 people out on the roads.” DACT’s fleet of seven buses currently cost £72,000
each. With a life-span of seven years they are replaced at the rate of one bus per year. The fleet enables the charity to provide non-profit
transport for 185 community groups serving 4,500 people as well as a free Dial-a-Ride Shopping bus, Village Travel Clubs and DACT Days Out trips. The charity also runs a Mobility Shop and the DACT Pitstop which services, repairs or recycles mobility equipment. It also provides training for the MiDAS nationally-
approved training certificate for mini bus drivers. Visit:

of business growth and transformation Marcus Keys said: “The 150 properties form part of our Group’s commitment to build more than 1,000 new homes by 2020 through our £147m development programme.” The first 15 homes have been
split across The Medway, Elizabeth Way and Hemans Road. All former garages owned by
Futures Housing Group, each site has been cleared to reduce housing shortages in Daventry and improve areas. All 15 homes were quickly snapped up, with many families moving in as soon as the properties were completed.
