Aylesford’s say on homes plan
RESIDENTS in Aylesford have a chance to have their say on plans for a new 840-home estate includ- ing a school and doctor’s surgery near congested Hermitage Lane. Cheshire-based Gladman Devel- opments has delivered 470 leaflets to homes and businesses in the area outlining a public consultation into their proposal which incorporates traffic improvements. The firm is proposing40%afford-
able housing, new traffic systems and pedestrian access, public space and children’s play areas and a “drainage basin” to provide a wildlife habitat. Gladman says it will be submit-
ting an outline application to Ton- bridge and Malling Council later this year. The site is a 33.69 hectare field bordering Hermitage Lane and the A20. The developer suggested that a new link road from the Poppy
Fields roundabout to Hermitage Lane will alleviate existing traffic congestion between the Coldhar- bour Roundabout and A20/Her- mitage Lane junction. It says that the Poppy Fields roundabout would be improved in order to increase current capacity. Congestion at the A20/Hermitage Lane junction would also be re- duced by land being safeguarded to allow Kent County Council to carry out the much-needed highway im- provements. As a result, there were also ex-
pected to be improvements to air quality in the vicinity. The company also estimates the
development would boost the local economy by £24.4 million. Comments can be submitted at
www.your-views.co.uk/aylesford. TheNewAllington Action Group
has raised a 1,000-strong petition against the proposals.
