Club’s successful season is spoiled by vandalism
SNODLAND Town Football Club's first team finished eighth in its first season in the Southern Counties East League Division One – the highest level the club has played in. The reserves are in with a good chance of promotion to Division One of the Kent County League, the Sunday teamwon promotion to the Premier Division of the Maid- stone Sunday League and the vet- erans, although losing a cup final, won the league title for the second successive year. The Nomads Under 18s and
Under 16s won their cup finals at Maidstone's Gallagher Stadium and a number of Nomads teams had successful seasons. The U18s beat Kings Hill U18s 2-1 and the U16s beat Vinters Valley U16s 6-3. There will not bemuch of a close season for the club with senior players reporting back for training on June 22 and work being carried out on the ground throughout the summer. calls it a day SNODLAND and District Choral Society is to close after 88 years due to dwindling numbers. It was founded by Cecil Butcher,
who was killed crossing Malling Road in 1981. He was succeeded as conductor by Dr Andrew Ash- bee who still holds the position. With the exception of a year dur-
ing the war, it has given at least two concerts every year. The final con- cert is at Christ Church on June 26. Andrew and his wife, Brenda, of Malling Road, joined the society in the early 1970s as accompanists and Brenda has continued since Andrew became conductor. There are now just 22 people in
spectator stand in order to meet the FA's ground criteria standard, but the club is also having to re- think the security of the ground, with constant break-ins and dam- age caused by local youths. The club is workingwith the town council, police and the community centre committee to try to enhance security and limit the damage.
Dave Jeal, the club's chief execu-
tive officer, said: "It has been hard for us to see why youths would wish to cause this damage. "We are developing a first-class sporting facility that is long overdue in our town, and it is frustrating to seemoney raised by parents, chil- dren and club members being wasted on damage repairs.”

out, " he added. "Our last concert, based around Messiah, would, per- haps, be an apt finale."
