The Beacon Association Carnival Fundraising Fun Run


The community of Upton were not afraid of the predicted bad weather on 30th April, with over 100 adults and children taking part in our annual Fun Run in the wonderful grounds of Upton House. They created a fun atmosphere and we were rewarded with the rain holding off until the very end. Some of the children – and a couple of adults – were in fancy dress, which kept up the momentum of fun and made for an enjoyable day for the family.


Before the runners set out, our sound man Adrian took charge of the music for the warm up exercise which


was led by our own Upton

race for the runners and it was good


to see the young Lytchett Rugby players join in for the fi rst time. With strong support from family and friends, the children fi nishing with smiles and determination on their faces was a delight to see. The fi nishing times of the runners were very keen and there are clearly a few very talented youngsters in the making!


The winners were: Boys 1.5m: Daniel Edwards; Girls 1.5m: Georgina Langdale; Men 5K: Daniel Molyneaux; Women 5K: Gina Phillips; Fancy Dress: Adult: Maritz Cloete; Child: Ben Cloete.


Once again we are indebted to our marshals and our clerical volunteers who give up their time to help us bring the community together for a fun day out, and to our local businesses: Upton Central Cafe, the Co-op and Spar in sponsoring the prizes, along with Ashley Press Ltd, who kindly produced the amazing Certifi cate of Achievement and Poole Council for allowing us to use the grounds.
