Upton In Bloom Floral Displays 2017
The Upton in Bloom group, which meets monthly in the Town Council Offi ces, has spent much time discussing this year’s arrangements for beds, troughs and baskets (new members welcome – for next meeting, call Lynn on 01202 622046).
We are indebted to Martyn Chase and Moya Jordan for their efforts in designing the beds and determining which plants should be used – no mean feat when they have to match the needs of the sponsors! It makes one even more appreciative of Brian Cooper’s efforts on his own for so many years.
Many of the beds this year will contain plaques and images which have been kindly created for us, at minimal cost, by Tony Garrett – eg. dolphin, scrolls, an owl and a book, and if you happen to see a couple of imitation beehives, these are his work too! Tony also makes excellent bird tables, so if you are interested in having a new bird residence, contact him on 01202 624056.
Ground staff
Fortunately, and much to In Bloom’s delight, the Town Council has been able to employ our new assistant groundsman, Jordan Downs, on a full time contract, to work alongside Gary. His commitment, enthusiasm and knowledge have already been amply demonstrated.
Horticultural Show
A reminder that this year the show is on Saturday 19th August, two weeks earlier than normal. So trophy holders please return them to the Council Offi ces by Friday 4th August.
Holders of children’s trophies, please return them by end of the summer term, as they don’t like going on holiday with you!
We hope that moving the date to August will make the show bigger and better than ever.
Judging
In Bloom judging will take place this year on Tuesday 4th July. We will publish the judge’s route in a subsequent issue.
