Lytchett Minster & Upton Gardening Club

Lytchett Minster and Upton Gardening Club is 75 years old this year.

We have written an article about our history and are just checking it before you all see it! We are having a mural painted and having a display in one of the Upton fl ower beds. On Friday 30th June at 2.30pm, we will meet in the walled garden of Upton Country Park for tea and cake. Please join us if you have any connection with the Gardening Club, past or present, but please bring your own drinks.

In April, Eric Watson spoke about ‘A Walk on the Wild Side.’ Eric has so much knowledge about the wild side of Dorset, and this talk featured creatures from spiders to snakes, illustrated by amazing photographs. See our programme below for future events and why not join us? Visit our website: www. lmugc.org.uk or contact secretary@lmugc.org.uk.

Thursday 22nd June: Breaking the rules – container gardening with a twist. A talk by Jonathan Garrett at 7.30pm at Upton Community Centre.

Jonathan opened his fi rst pottery in the 1980s moving to his Hare Lane Pottery in Cranborne in 1986. His work has featured at the V&A, the Scottish Gallery, the Chelsea Fringe, Hilliers Arboretum and London’s Garden Museum and he has been the subject of reviews in the Garden Design Journal and the National Trust magazine. Known internationally for his glorious containers, his unique take on garden sculpture could recently be seen in the Piet Oudolf garden at Alton’s Bury Court and Dorset’s Sculpture by the Lakes. Jonathan sees containers as miniature portable gardens. His humorous talk explains how they can awaken and defi ne otherwise inactive spaces – and challenges the notion of what is admissible in garden design. Our visitors’ entry is £3 and includes tea and biscuits.
