Now we are entering (hopefully!) the warmer months of the year we will be able to get out and about in our streets and lanes. It is important that whilst enjoying the great outdoors we do not leave our debris about the town. There is no doubt that some people (the minority) do not bother about the environment and have not got the basic sense of responsibility to pocket and bin their own waste. While I would never advocate direct confrontation with litter bugs, we can perhaps make people think in other ways. For example when we are with our family or friends we can encourage them to use the bins rather than dropping litter where they like. We can also pick up litter in front of people who drop it as I did recently. The lady concerned was very apologetic and embarrassed and I hope she may think again about dropping litter. In the end we can hope that dropping litter becomes as unacceptable as vandalism – after all, one way or another it is spoiling our environment and making life less enjoyable for our citizens.


Our next meeting is at 6pm on Wednesday 31st May at Turbary Court, Douglas Close. We are always delighted to see new faces even as a one off. Meanwhile thanks to all those who have been looking after their areas and putting litter in the bin.


Finally we would ask residents to be vigilant and advise the above named offi cers of any litter, fl y- tipping, dog fouling or overgrown pathways (or bins that have not been emptied) and we will do our best to resolve the problem.
