CHAMBER NEWS

Free cyber health checks for Chamber members

As part of Business Continuity Awareness Week, which takes place 15-19 May, free cyber health checks are being offered to businesses across the Midlands on a first-come-first-served basis. The Chamber and Patron

Economit have joined forces to help regional firms combat the growing risk of attack through their IT systems. Economit, of Darley Abbey Mills,

Derby, was set up to help business leaders make great technology decisions by using an IT director’s skills; creating technology strategies that aid the business in achieving its goals. Mike Donoghue, Joint Managing

Director at Economit, said: “I am delighted that Economit is joining forces with the Chamber to provide what is a vitally important cyber security health check to its members. As an organisation that has

taken many businesses through to full Cyber Essentials accreditation, Economit fully understands the

requirements of SMEs looking to protect themselves against what is largely an invisible foe, posing an ever increasing array of risks and threats. We are grateful to the Chamber for choosing to partner with us to help businesses mitigate the security issues faced with doing business in 2017. “It is everyone’s responsibility

and in everyone’s interest to do everything they can to stop cyber crime. By working with the Chamber we hope to help the widest audience possible. Cyber crime doesn’t just happen to everyone else, it can happen to any of us and takes many forms, some of which can bring a business to its knees. “By increasing awareness of

cyber crime and how cyber criminals operate we can work together to help eradicate this pervasive modern pest.” Andy Watterson, Business Crime

Manager at the Chamber, added: “Cyber crime is a rapidly growing phenomenon of modern business and one that is very hard to stay one

step ahead of. The potential for any organisation or individual to fall victim to increasingly clever cyber criminals gets bigger every day. “By partnering with

Economit, an independent and impartial IT consultancy, we can now offer members a free cyber health check.” Under the partnership,

Economit will offer Chamber members a free consultation to examine the extent of their risk to cyber crime and offer guidance on steps to reduce those risks. The offer is open to businesses of all sizes and sectors.

Initial enquiries should be submitted via email to information@emc-dnl.co.uk, after which members will receive a short fact-finding questionnaire ahead of consultation.
