HEALTH & SAFETY - WORKWEAR
Carlos Chivite Trincado, Environment Health and Safety (EHS) Technical Director at GE Renewable Energy, a role in which he has specific responsibility for developing new markets commented: “We have been using SPOT for over five years in Europe. Our wind installations can be located in the middle of the desert, such as in Pakistan and Morocco, or they can be positioned high in the mountains or on the coast, all areas where GSM might not reach. “We need to know that our staff,
wherever they are, can work safely, and are connected: We must be confident in our workers’ security before we undertake any new wind energy development,” he added.
REMOTE LOCATIONS
GE’s security department is now always aware of employees’ locations as they traverse remote terrain – sometimes with the assistance of security teams and escorts – to and from wind installations, thanks to SPOT’s reliable tracking capability. Since launching in 2007, our SPOT family of devices have been providing enhanced safety for an ever growing variety of organisations, including those in the wind power sector. For instance, although any major construction project comes with operational hazards, if your company is involved in wind energy production, fire is a particularly acute risk. “The peace of mind that SPOT gives is an important part of providing the best possible working conditions for our crews as they operate in some very challenging circumstances,” Chivite Trincado added.
IN CONCLUSION
Skilled professionals who work in remote and potentially hazardous environments have begun to expect better, highly reliable safety equipment while performing their jobs, even in remote and dangerous environments. We are proud that Globalstar’s SPOT system, now with some 300,000 devices deployed, has to date initiated over 5,000 rescues worldwide. In many of these situations, lives were saved.
In consideration of the critical roles which solo workers and remote crews perform every day, particularly when developing new sources of energy, organisations everywhere increasingly hold the view that valued employees truly deserve state-of-the-art technology to help them work smarter, and safer.
