HEALTH & SAFETY - WORKWEAR

SAFETY FOR OFFSHORE WIND WORKERS

Wind energy and keeping offshore workers safe is one of the specialties of Survitec, who provide survival and safety solutions to the marine, defence, aviation and offshore markets

WIND ENERGY SUIT LAUNCH

The company launched its 1000 Series Offshore Wind Energy Suit recently which was designed and built specifically for the offshore renewable energy industry. The original suit was launched in 2006 following the introduction of additional European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) rulings.

Prior to the design of the latest Wind Energy suit, Survitec made improvements based on extensive feedback from Industry experts. The results provide the most advanced comfort and performance technology for the harshest working environment. The suit is available as an immersion suit with fully integrated thermal liner, or as an uninsulated suit specifically for marine use. The technology used in the suit means that it provides comfort whilst delivering survivability and in-water performance.

APPROVALS AND REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS

The suit is approved to ETSO 2C503 with EASA and provides multiple options with MED and SOLAS approvals by helicopter or boat. As a result, operators only need to invest in one transportation survival suit. The suit also holds CE marking meaning it can be used for constant wear PPE making this a unique Tri approved design. As well as meeting all regulatory

requirements, the suit was designed and manufactured to take into account the fact that offshore wind farms in particular demand a specific set of requirements. These include being able to withstand the harshest environments and the ability for the suit to be waterproof, breathable and inherently flame retardant.

EXTRA PROTECTION

The extremely durable elbow, seat and knee reinforcements provide extra protection for those working in harsh environments or being winched to work via helicopter. It is approved for use with the crewsaver marine lifejacket range as well as the Category A approved Mk51 and Compressed Air EBS that is now mandatory on all UK helicopter flights. In addition, it can be worn comfortably with various compatible harnesses for Rope Access work.

UNIQUELY PLACED

Survitec is uniquely placed to be able to service the growing wind energy and offshore sector. Its understanding of aviation and marine safety as well as lifting and rigging, inspection and maintenance services all lend themselves to the various tasks of those working within the wind energy industry.
