he Inspiring City Awards celebrate individuals and businesses that have gone above and beyond to encourage, mentor and support investment and
growth in the city. Every nominee and winner, announced at a ceremony on 11 September, should be proud of their achievements. Tis year’s winners are vibrant and diverse, exemplary in their commitment to make our city flourish.
ART AND CULTURE AWARD SUPPORTED BY STV GLASGOW Winner: Glasgow Film Festival
Established in 2005, Te Glasgow Film Festival works with partners from across the city to showcase the best of international and Scotish cinema. Te festival also provides a variety of workshops, creative programmes and special events aimed at young people across the city.
BEST CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AWARD SUPPORTED BY GLASGOW CALEDONIAN UNIVERSITY: GLASGOW SCHOOL FOR BUSINESS AND SOCIETY Winner: Glasgow Taxis
As well as ensuring the safety of Glasgow’s citizens, Glasgow Taxis has a commitment to support local charities and organisations. It is known for its annual Glasgow Taxi Outing Fund’s Trip to Troon – now in its 69th year – which takes over 400 children for a fun day out. Special Commendation: City Building (Glasgow) LLP
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD SUPPORTED BY SCOTTISH GAS Winner: City Legacy Ltd
Te Athletes’ Village in the East End of Glasgow is one of the most unique and significant new urban developments in the UK and has completely transformed the local area, leaving a lasting legacy in terms of housing and job creation. Following the games, the village has been transformed into a lively residential community with 700 homes, a 120-bed care home, amenities and public spaces.

EDUCATION AWARD SUPPORTED BY GLASGOW TAXIS Winner: Communication Workers Union – Learning Reps at Glasgow Royal Mail Centre
Te CWU is a campaigning union and represents members on a variety of subjects, including fair pay, pensions, just terms and conditions, health and safety and equal opportunities. Research has shown that the CWU has made progress in increasing the participation of women, younger workers and ethnic minorities in learning, as well as developing excellent practice in the area of learning disabilities through Union Learning Reps and learning centres. INDUSTRY AND BUSINESS AWARD SUPPORTED BY GLASGOW CREDIT UNION Winner: University of Strathclyde
Established in 1796 “for the good of mankind”, the University of Strathclyde has always had a global outlook. Situated in the heart of Glasgow, it has a vibrant and international community with 22,000 students and 3,000 staff from 100 countries. Te University of Strathclyde is recognised internationally for its close relationships with global businesses, partnerships with industry, government and policy-makers.
OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTION BY A BUSINESS LEADER AWARD SUPPORTED BY ROYAL BANK OF SCOTLAND
Winner: Dr Rabinder Buttar
Dr Butar is an award-winning scientist and founder of ClinTec, an internationally renowned clinical research organisation with employee development at its heart. Under her guidance, its clients include seven of the 10 leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies. ClinTec won the Queen’s Award for Enterprise and has recently launched a Master’s degree in International Clinical Research and Technology.
SPORTS AWARD SUPPORTED BY GLASGOW AIRPORT Winner: Glasgow City Football Club
GCFC is Scotland’s most successful women’s football club, winning back-to-back trebles, the last seven premier league titles and the last three Scotish cup titles. It has twice reached the Champions League last 16 and has fielded 10 of the current Scotland World Cup squad. Te club is run by Laura Montgomery and Carol Anne Stewart (who established GCFC 16 years ago) and is sustained by coach, player and parent volunteers.
