» Get up to speed with revisions to ISO standards at workshops

ext year will be a major one for many companies as, in 2015, the International

Standards Organization (ISO) will issue a significant revision to the ISO 9001 – Quality Management Systems Standard, last revised in 2008. Tis can trace its roots back to the 1950s when it was introduced as the United States Defence Military Standard and then carried over by the British Standard Institution and adopted as BS5750 – the basis for the current ISO 9001:2008 standard. Te Quality Management

Systems Standard ISO 9001 has the highest adoption globally of any standard within the ISO, with more than one million companies claiming to be certified to it. In the UK there are in excess

of 50,000 certificates issued and tens of thousands of companies

choosing to adopt the principles without the need to be certified. Also, ISO 14001:2004 is due

to be revised and released in 2015. Te Environmental Management Systems Standard is adopted and certified by in excess of 200,000 companies globally. Tese two standards, along with

the OHSAS 18001 Health and Safety standard (which will be revised and released as ISO 45001 in 2016) are the mainstay of an Integrated Management System and seen by many to be the basis of global standard adoption of world-class organisations and many smaller companies who look to demonstrate compliance. In turn, this can be used to effectively improve working practices and bring improved financial performance. In fact, in many industries, it is simply expected of companies to be certified to one or

all of these three standards just to be considered to bid for work. Te change to ISO 9001 will be

significant and will see the these areas affected or introduced: Organisation, Leadership, Risk and Opportunity, Operations, Change, Communication, Monitoring and Measuring, plus Improvement. Some will be simple changes and

so quite straightforward for existing certified companies to comply with. However, in other areas, it will be far more significant and a detailed understanding of the changes, plus the impact to your organisation will need to be undertaken. To address the changes, FQM

Ltd (a leading UK Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental Consultancy and Training Organisation) in partnership with Glasgow Chamber of Commerce will be running a “How To … …” workshop on Friday 21 November

to introduce the changes, the timelines and more. We will then follow this workshop up with more detailed half-day and one-day training sessions for those staff members responsible for compliance to these standards to come along and learn exactly how to implement the changes. FQM Ltd has been at the

forefront of ISO standard implementation for the last 12 years and brings a breadth and depth of knowledge and competency from every industry sector.
