Call for Rockland Recycles Awards & Green Exhibitors O


n Sunday, May 6th, the Rockland County Solid


Waste Management Author- ity will be hosting its 3rd Annual Environmental Day, Living Green in Rockland, at their facilities in the beauti- ful Torne Valley in Hillburn. “Each year, as part of the Authority’s Environmental Day, recognition is given for excellence in recycling and waste prevention programs. The goal is to highlight the successes of organizations, businesses, institutions,


schools and government entities that go beyond the norm to advance recycling and waste prevention and to make these examples available to others who may use them as models,” shares Kerri Scales, solid waste educator at the Rockland County Solid Waste Management Authority. Applications for this year’s Rockland Recycles Awards


Program will be received until Monday, April 2nd. The Authority also is looking for green exhibitors, vendors, environmental demonstrations and volunteers for the day of the event. The 2012 event will feature over 40 green exhibi- tors, vendors, and environmental demonstrations as well as tours of Rockland’s Environmental Education and Recycling Center, an organic plant sale, kids’ activities, music, food, giveaways and more. “Each year the event offers more in the way of green


resources and information in and around Rockland County,” says Scales. “We hope to see you from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 6th, for our 3rd Annual Environmental Day.”

purpose of World Doula Week (WDW) is to empower doulas all over the world to improve the physiological, social, emotional and psychological health of women, newborns and families in birth and in the postpartum period. The World Doula Week events will take place all over the world during the same week, stating the benefits of the presence of doulas in birth and in the postpartum period.” Just Us Women Productions, headed by executive direc-


tor Tamara Wrenn, provides birth and postpartum doula care as well as related birth services such as normal birth educa- tion and infant massage instruction. Wrenn’s background in maternal and child health spans more than 17 years. In addition to her work with individual moms and groups, she provides maternal and child health consulting services to organizations. The Orange County Doulas are a group of local dou- las who also are certified and/or licensed in areas such as placental encapsulation, childbirth education and nursing.
