into a person’s soul by looking into the sole of a person’s shoe.” The final show in the Studio for

2012 is I Hate Hamlet (October 26 – November 18) by Paul Rudnick. According to the web blurb, it is “the funniest ghost story you’ll ever see!” Going on – “He has it all: a starring role on television, a rich beautiful girl friend, and the chance to play Hamlet in Central Park. Then his TV series gets canceled, his girl has second thoughts and he hates Shakespeare. But the tipsy ghost of John Barrymore appears and demands that he play the role. He duels with the ghost, gets the girl and destroys Hamlet.” And on the Main Stage, three more

Monterey County premieres. TWS’s love affair with the work of John Steinbeck continues with Pastures of Heaven, newly adapted for the stage by Octavio Solis, one of the best American playwrights going. The Monterey County premiere opens June 30 and runs through July 15. “This play is racy, humorous, and tragic and filled with stories of the wildly desperate peo- ple who struggled to make a home in the Salinas Valley.” As for Spring Awakening, the blurb

says it all: “An electrifying Broadway musical…a rock musical for our time. The winner of eight Tony’s, four Drama Desk Awards and four Olivier Awards. Originally banned from stages all over the world because of its shocking por- trayal of the teenage search for meaning in life and their stormy struggle with budding sexuality.” A don’t miss if ever there was one, Spring Awakening, a Monterey County premiere, runs September 8 – September 29. And closing out the season on the

Main Stage, yet another Monterey County premiere, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas runs November 10 – December 8. The all-singing, all danc- ing holiday musical includes the Irving

Berlin hits “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” “Count Your Blessings,” ” How Deep Is the Ocean,” “Sisters,” “I Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” and of course, “White Christmas.”

Fiddler on the Roof, starring the ever popular Reg Huston, the best Tevye I have ever seen, for the newly renovated Golden Bough Theatre run- ning April 26 – May 27. I don’t have

dates for the rest of the season but the rollicking spoof of Alfred Hitchcock’s 1935 spy thriller The 39 Steps follows “Fiddler” in the Golden Bough with Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar and the mysterious TBA (“A big Broadway musical that we can’t tell you about... yet!” says the PacRep website) to follow that. The intimate,

also newly reno- vated Circle Theatre will pres- ent the comedy God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza (adapted to film and currently in release as Carnage directed by Roman Polanski) followed by Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize win- ning Three Tall Women. The outdoor

stage of the Forest Theatre will see a

And Don’t Forget… El Teatro Campesino presents the

superb Flamenco troupe Noche Flamenca, Tues. Jan 17 & Wed. Jan 18 at 7:30pm as fundraiser for ETC pro- grams & St. Francis Retreat. In March of 2009 I wrote, “Passion. Pure passion. Gut wrenching, soul searing passion. Noche Flamenca – the dancers, the gui- tarists, the singers – serve up perform- ance art so intense it inflames the mind while stun- ning the heart with beauty, meaning and intensi- ty.
