Then his TV series gets canceled, his girl has second thoughts and he hates Shakespeare. But the tipsy ghost of John Barrymore appears and demands that he play the role. Monterey County premieres. TWS’s love affair with the work of John Steinbeck continues with Pastures of Heaven, newly adapted for the stage by Octavio Solis, one of the best American playwrights going. The Monterey County premiere opens June 30 and runs through July 15. “This play is racy, humorous, and tragic and filled with stories of the wildly desperate peo- ple who struggled to make a home in the Salinas Valley.” As for Spring Awakening, the blurb
says it all: “An electrifying Broadway musical…a rock musical for our time. The winner of eight Tony’s, four Drama Desk Awards and four Olivier Awards. Originally banned from stages all over the world because of its shocking por- trayal of the teenage search for meaning in life and their stormy struggle with budding sexuality.” A don’t miss if ever there was one, Spring Awakening, a Monterey County premiere, runs September 8 – September 29. Main Stage, yet another Monterey County premiere, Irving Berlin’s White Christmas runs November 10 – December 8. The all-singing, all danc- ing holiday musical includes the Irving
Berlin hits “Blue Skies,” “I Love A Piano,” “The Best Things Happen While You’re Dancing,” “Count Your Blessings,” ” How Deep Is the Ocean,” “Sisters,” “I Got My Love To Keep Me Warm,” and of course, “White Christmas.”
