ACCESSCONTROL
SURVEY REVEALS MORE ACCESS CONTROL IS NEEDED
A recent survey by Codelocks, leading manufacturer of standalone access con- trol products, has established that there is a growing need to control access with- in buildings. Te survey was taken as part of a market
research programme. Te company un- dertook a survey of buying habits which revealed that 57% of respondents needed more access control in their buildings to- day, compared to three years ago. Respondents to the survey, who came
from a wide range of market sectors in- cluding education, healthcare, retail and sports and leisure, cited the need to re- strict public access to buildings as the main reason for the increase in demand for access control.

spoke offerings; especially for Academy complexes. Another area is social housing, both in new build and refurbishment. Te Government’s recent announcement of £500m to support new homes will be dis- tributed across the UK to support local work programmes, all of which will need securing. Mul-T-Lock has also seen successes in the leisure market, helping bed and breakfasts and small guest houses to up- grade their security. Here, access control has proven popular over traditional me- chanical solutions as owners recognise the convenience of adding and removing information quickly and easily.

partnership and market opportunities to the table. Whilst Mul-T-Lock is keen to integrate
such solutions where suitable and be- lieves these innovations are an important area for current and future development, we also will not turn our back on mechan- ical security and still see its importance in the market as end users seek integra- tion. In summary, to remain on top, it is
critical that the industry works together to ensure locksmiths can invest in tried and tested, yet innovative, product solu- tions that meet the requirements of our end users. Only this way, with the help of ‘Com-
bined Solutions’ can we all have the right security offerings to meet their changing needs.
DRIVING DEMAND “We have seen year-on-year growth in
demand for our keyless access control products and now have a better under- standing of what’s driving that demand,” explained Grant Macdonald, managing director, Codelocks. “Fortunately, elec- tronic and mechanical push-button locks give people a way of implementing access control very quickly and cost-effectively. Doing away with keys is flagged up as a major benefit in many applications.” Te survey revealed that the increased
need for access control is not only for the protection of people, but also for the pro- tection of belongings, equipment, hazard- ous materials and confidential informa- tion. Many people referred to an increase in the level of threat from crime and see access control as a way to deter theft. In recent years there has also been greater emphasis on the need to create safe and secure environments for children and vulnerable adults. Providing access con- trol in schools and on hospital wards, for example, can help achieve this. Te survey was completed by more
than 250 people and Codelocks would like to thank everyone who took part.
