ACCESSCONTROL
There is no doubt that electronic locking solutions and access control systems continue to be a growth area in the security industry. In this article, LEE HOWARD, Mul-T-Lock’s new dedicated Sales Manager for Access Control, explores the opportunities that exist for locksmiths who adopt these product solutions as part of an overall security specification.
INTEGRATE ACCESS CONTROL FOR KEY RESULTS
Looking forward to 2012, with little signs of market recovery customers are likely to remain in search of inno- vative products that offer easy integra- tion with existing systems to keep costs down. Locksmiths will need to work even harder to find ways to cut costs and yet still increase revenue. From Mul-T-Lock’s perspective, we
believe one of the most effective ways of doing this, is to understand the industry conditions and adapt company structure and product/service offerings to suit. With this in mind, we see the key to
success as being the integration of access control solutions with mechanical master key suites – a combined solution - to offer the flexibility and convenience required by its clients.
Combined Solutions Mul-T-Lock launched our Combined
Solutions initiative back at MLA Expo, to take a holistic approach to security and consider generic requirements, user con- venience, safety and up to date standards compliance, whilst all being mindful of tight financial budget availability. Once this is established, Mul-T-Lock and our partner locksmith, can form
a balance of mechanical and digital in one system offering, providing the end user with a professionally installed, high quality and secure solution, with all the benefits of access control where it is re- quired. By example, Mul-T-Lock may work with
a local locksmith to create a solution that integrates CLiQ technology into a me- chanical master key system. Tis would provide the business owner
with secure physical locking but give au- dit and timed access capability in critical areas. Additionally, Mul-T-Lock’s brand new CLiQ Remote technology could be added to allow access authorisation to be granted remotely across a number of sites via a mobile phone. Alternatively, Mul-T-Lock may suggest
a patented mechanical MT5 or Interactive suite for exterior doors, but offer a key- less option internally with the new Mul- T-Lock Smartair wireless access control escutcheons on all internal doors. Code-It electronic handles could then
be used on storage cupboards or meeting rooms with a mechanical override, thus combining the advantages of mechanical peace of mind with electro-mechanical convenience.

Partnership Approach It is not just innovative products that will impress end users.
Although the
best examples of diversification require innovation, in essence they represent a new product or service that truly comple- ments existing offerings. Te key to the success of Combined So-
lutions, is our ability to work closely with locksmiths to offer high quality, conveni- ent mechanical solutions such as master key suites through a dedicated dealer net- work. Combined Solutions also looks to in-
tegrate access control solutions, an area where Mul-T-Lock’s product develop- ment is acutely focussed. For the end user, the ‘Combined Solution’ also en- sures an efficient and confident installa- tion by a professional locksmith.
Market Opportunities Mul-T-Lock also believes with Com-
bined Solutions and the adoption of more access control solutions, locksmiths can open up their expertise to take advantage of different market opportunities. In today’s climate, it is just as important
to invest in new products, as it is to move fast and take advantage of market op- portunities. And statistically speaking in past periods of difficult trading, compa- nies that actively sought to diversify and engage with new opportunities had an increased chance of survival. By example, with the Government’s
focus on refurbishment of schools and focus on sixth form buildings and univer- sities, there is a potential for locksmiths to utilise combined solutions to create be-
