SFS INTEC DESIGNS OUT CRIME WITH HIGH PERFORMANCE HINGES

SFS intec’s high performance hinges have been accredited by the UK Police- backed scheme, Secured by Design (SBD). Figures released this summer by the

annual British Crime Survey showed a 14% increase in domestic burglaries, compared with last year. Tis equates to around one in forty households being vic- tims of burglary or attempted burglary. Te SBD initiative aims to drive down escalating crime levels by promoting se- cure building design and the use of certi- fied products, proven to provide premises with enhanced protection against intrud- ers. Only products that have passed a rigorous testing process can carry SBD’s coveted ‘Police Preferred Specification’ status. Michael Brooke, Development Officer

at Te Association of Chief Police Offic- ers (ACPO) and Secured by Design rep- resentative, said: “Te main objective is to stop homes and businesses from being victims of crime by prevention through physical security and improved develop- ment layout. With over 10,000 SBD build- ings in West Yorkshire alone, the message is certainly getting out there.” SFS intec has partnered with SBD to

company’s advanced dynamic hinge de- sign has been developed with a support mechanism that shields the side of the door from force. Te hinge’s robust and durable properties also ensure maximum protection from potential damage caused by perpetrators. “Research shows that two thirds of

burglars force entry through a door, so security is a vital factor at the design and installation stage. Despite this, few profes- sional trades people - let alone homeown- ers - consider the part that door assem- blies play in putting a stop to would-be intruders,” said SFS intec’s Business De- velopment Manager Nigel Wood.

“We’re pleased to be able to support the

ongoing fight against crime - especially at a time when the widely publicised cuts to policing are causing concern. Joining the Secured by Design initiative gives us a platform to promote the importance of high performance hinges as well as har- nessing our expertise to contribute to the greater good.”

Secured by Design was established by the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) in 1989. For further informa- tion visit www.securedbydesign.com
