On our summer vacation, we ate lionfish—just one small way we were able to help the ecology in Grand Cayman. A few years ago, this invasive species made its way to the Caribbean. Lionfish have been increasing in numbers with incredible speed and, without local predators, the species has been eating more than its share of other fish which disrupts the ecosystem. To help alleviate this, once a week, a master scuba diver leads a group of divers on a lionfish hunt. The catch is then grilled for dinner. It may seem like a

small action, but it makes a difference. Closer to home, we have the beautiful Hudson River. I recently read The

Protest Singer: An Intimate Portrait of Pete Seeger. When discussing why Pete Seeger decided to a build a Hudson River sloop, he simply explained, “The River’s worth saving.” He believed that if people experienced the river and saw its beauty then they would be roused to protect it. He, along with many others, has done a lot to help restore our river, yet there is still more to be done if we want future generations to enjoy it and live in harmony with it. As Kathleen Dean Moore reminds us, every day we have the power to make choices that will honor our planet (see page 31). In Water, Water Everywhere, Sandra Postel explains that while water seems abundant, there is not an endless supply and we need to protect our waterways (see page 22). Fortunately, there are actions we can take to help our blue planet stay

blue—from small actions like turning off the faucet while brushing our teeth to larger undertakings such as participating in local clean-ups. Ablution Solution provides some simple, yet effective, water-saving bathroom tips (see page 10). Our lighting choices are another way we can effect change. Everyone seems to be familiar with CFLs these days, but LEDs are a promising alternative as well (see page 13). While taking care of the environment is imperative, taking care of ourselves

also should be a priority. In Reducing Sports-Related Injuries, Dr. Randy Russo shares how chiropractic care can help us recover from injuries more easily (see page 19). In Honest Relationships, Frances Lefkowitz helps us speak the truth and explains why that will make us healthier (see page 32). Sadhguru, founder of the Isha Foundation, expands on how health is wholeness (see page 34). He explains that if we keep our energy in full flow and proper balance, our body and mind will be in perfect health. Yoga can be one of the many ways to help us achieve this. Just as there are many ways to achieve optimal health, there are many ways to practice yoga. Local yoga instructor Kelly Kamm asks us the question, “To Rock or Not to Rock?” as she discusses the pro and cons of music during yoga (see page 21). Pete Seeger believes that participation is key in life. Be an active participant

in the world and in your well-being, and watch it radiate out to others. With Joy,
