Canadian Pony Club Athletes Bring their Best to International Competition International Mounted Games Exchange and Quiz competitions take place in Kentucky
Canadian Pony Club teams representing two disci- plines recently returned from the Bluegrass State having made their mark on
the international stage. Hosted by the United States Pony Club (USPC), Canadian Pony Club mem- bers competed in Interna-
tional Mounted Games Exchange and International Quiz at the Kentucky Horse Park, host venue for the World Equestrian
Games last year, from July 12 – 23. The Canadian International Mounted Games team placed fourth overall, the C1 Quiz team placed second and the C2 Quiz team placed sixth. “I’m delighted to have member representation from across Canada on each team as a true exam- ple of loyalty, character and sportsmanship,” said Cathy Miller, National Chair, Canadian Pony Club. “Each of these ath- letes topped the field in their respective regions, so I’d like to congratulate the members of Team Canada on their hard work and achievements.”
As the only unmount- ed competition Canadian Pony Club offers, Quiz is a battle of the minds. Com- petitors answer questions related to all areas of equine care including lame- ness, feed and nutrition, saddlery, conformation and more. This year’s team included:
• Jill Barnett, BC Lower Mainland
• Casey Leroux, BC Lower Mainland
• Kaya Hunter, BC Interior • Sarah Allison, BC Lower Mainland

This year’s team had the opportunity to visit Washington DC and Virginia before touching down in Kentucky for the competition. • Jessica Wallin, Alberta North
• Kristen Pym, Alberta North
• Jordan Cornish, BC Lower Mainland
The 2011 show season will be packed with other local, national and interna- tional events and competi- tions, including tetrathlon, a discipline exclusive to Pony Club involving four phases of competition, sim- ilar to a modified pen- tathlon; dressage and showjumping; weekend- long rallies and numerous branch competitions, clin- ics and events. Members from each region will have the chance to compete nationally in the following upcoming competitions:
• National Prince Philip Games, British Columbia Lower Mainland and Cen- tral Ontario
• Jacquie Kelton, Western Ontario
• Dylan McPhail, Coach • Sandra Radcliffe, Chaper- one

tition with teams from the USA, Australia, Hong Kong and New Zealand. International competi- tions typically last one to two weeks to give partici- pants a chance to do more than just compete. These exchanges offer opportuni- ties to experience different cultures and riding styles from around the world, forging friendships and experiences that last a life- time.
• National Show Jumping, British Columbia Lower Mainland
“Our members and volunteers have spent the winter preparing for this season of friendly competi- tion based on a thorough knowledge of horseman- ship and equitation,” said Cathy Miller. “I wish all of our competitors the best of luck.”
• National Rally, St. Lawrence, Ottawa Valley Other international events scheduled for this year include International Tetrathlon in early August, hosted jointly by the Unit- ed Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
