The final special award of the evening was the Bill Borland Memorial Award, sponsored by the Norris/Hitsman families. This award is given to another non-EOQHA Executive member who shows great level of volunteer support. The 2010 recipient of this award was Kathy Grier and was also given a 30yr Anniversary jacket. Tug O’War Ray Laviolette, Hall of Fame Inductee
EOQHA held their annual awards banquet on Saturday, May 28 at the Spring Fling circuit. Everyone enjoyed a catered meal by Fadi’s Fabu- lous Foods which was then followed by the 2010 awards presentation which began with President, Cheryl Norris and OQHA Queen, Jenna Woodley making a grand golf cart entrance and giving out EOQHA 30yr gifts to lucky winners in the crowd. EOQHA Loses Long Time Member
Two recipients were inducted into the EOQHA Hall of Fame. Ray Laviolette of Circle R Saddlery, a long time sponsor and supporter of EOQHA was inducted. Dianne Runtz, who has served in many Executive roles and a lifetime member since the creation of EOQHA in 1981, was also inducted. These recipients were hon-
We are very saddened to share that EOQHA has lost a long-time supporter and friend. Carol Malcolm, the current EOQHA Vice President, suffered a heart attack while travelling home from work on Monday, June 6. She was taken to the Ottawa Civic Hospital but despite the efforts of bystanders, she was unable to be resuscitated. Carol’s Husband, Tom, and sister Robyn, were a major cheering section for Carol’s horse endeavors. Carol was the definition of good sport that had fun with her horses and enjoyed the com- pany of fellow riders. She worked hard to pro-
Exhibitors at the June Classic were treated to a beautiful weekend and some fun courtesy of the EOQHA Youth. On Saturday evening, EOQHA hosted a BBQ where the Youth offered a Silent Auction and 50/50 draw. The real fun began when the Tug O’War rope was brought out. Teams of 4 could be entered in the event and were auctioned off by our very own auc- tioneer of the evening, Doug MacDougall. After several rounds of tug o’war, the victorious team called the Schwarzenegger’s made up of Bill Rinzema, Melanie & Matt Cressman and Steve Trolley were the winners and had successfully defeated all others in the tournament. The pro- ceeds were given to the EOQHA Youth and a great evening was had by all.
EOQHA Congress Youth Team The All American Quarter Horse Congress hosts the National Youth Association Team Tournament (NYATT) in Columbus, Ohio. EOQHA is now accepting applications for 2011 EOQHA Congress Youth Team. Inter- ested individuals can find the Youth team guidelines and application form on the EOQHA website
