xcelsys Technologies has released its latest Xsolo power
supplies that have been designed and tested to meet both the B and BF type requirements per the IEC 60601 standard. This makes them suitable for applications that need these levels of performance. The company advises its testing
performance and safety levels, enabling first-pass success during agency approvals. B-type applied parts, which are not typically attached to the patient for long periods of time, include LED lighting, medical lasers, medical imaging (e.g., MRI), hospital beds and phototherapy
equipment. Type BF applied parts have conductive long-term contact with a patient. These can include incubators, therapy systems patient heating and cooling equipment, ultrasound monitoring, cardiac monitoring, as well as long-term diagnostic equipment and blood pressure monitoring. To demonstrate that its power supplies are suitable for these applications, Excelsys tested both its basic and low-leakage Xsolo models (XS1000-48N-000 and XS1000-48N-004) to the 60601 standard using an AC source providing 264 VAC at 63Hz to recreate worse-case conditions.

ULTRASCALE 440 FPGA BASED PROTOTYPING SYSTEMS
Pro Design has launched its complete proFPGA product family consisting of the proFPGA UNO, DUO and QUAD system, based on its latest FPGA technology. The fully verified and tested systems are the next generation of the company’s modular and scalable high performance multi FPGA Prototyping solutions. Scalable from 1 up to 4 pluggable Xilinx Virtex UltraScale XCVU440 based FPGA modules the QUAD system offers a capacity of up to 120M ASIC gates, which is claimed to be nearly a factor of 2.5 more compared to the previous Virtex 7 based generation. Up to five proFPGA QUAD systems with overall 20 FPGA modules can be easily connected together to increase the capacity up to 600M ASIC gates. The company highlights that the big advantage of the proFPGA concept is its modularity. The user can for
example use the UNO system for IP or sub designs development and can reuse the FPGA modules for complete SoC and ASIC prototyping by simply plugging the same proFPGA Virtex 7 or UltraScale FPGA modules on a DUO or QUAD motherboard. This innovative technology and methodology aims to offer maximum reusability and high return on investment, because this new product family is fully compatible (up and down) to the previous proFPGA generation. That means all proFPGA motherboards, FPGA modules, daughter cards and accessories can be used in combination with the new proFPGA XCVU440 FPGA modules. Further it allows users to mix and match the new Xilinx Virtex UltraScale FPGA technology with the previous Virtex 7 and Zynq technology in one system. The system comes with the proFPGA Builder software, which provides an extensive set of features, like advanced clock management, integrated self- and performance test, automatic board detection and I/O voltage programming, system scan- and safety mechanism, and quick remote system configuration and monitoring through USB, Ethernet or PCIe, which simplifies the usage of the proFPGA system tremendously.

A 60V synchronous buck controller able to bypass the intermediate step-down conversion stage traditionally employed in industrial applications has been released by Intersil Corporation. The company's ISL8117 synchronous step-down PWM controller’s low duty cycle (40ns minimum on time) enables the direct step-down conversion from 48V to a 1V point-of-load. The ISL8117 controller offers a cost-effective and reliable alternative for applications where Vout
to Vin ratio is low. It uses valley / ELECTRONICS
current mode modulation with adaptive slope compensation to enable stable operation for a wide range of Vout
and Vin combinations,
with no external compensation required. System designers can also use the the adjustable frequency up to 2MHz to optimise power supply cost, size and efficiency. This solution is able to reduce
device footprint and simplifies design without compromising performance. Default design values for commonly used functions and the wide Vout
and Vin reduce the
number of external components compared to competing solutions. Engineers can design a complete DC/DC buck conversion solution with only 10 components, including MOSFETs and passives, and achieve up to 98% conversion efficiency with 1.5% output voltage accuracy. The low pin count and layout friendly pin architecture also minimises the number of overlapping traces, further improving power supply performance.

The MEDI-SNAP EMC is the newest addition to ODU’s push-pull circular connectors, offering protection against accidental contact whilst ensuring EMC shielding. The demand for shielded products continues to rise, as new applications in medical technology requires that more electronics are enclosed in less space. This latest connector combines the application- related benefits of both metal and plastic - as a result it is very light and is both autoclavable and sterilisable.
