nologies (CAAST) at The Samuel Roberts Noble Founda- tion, Ardmore, Okla. He received his bachelor’s degree in range manage-
ment, his master’s degree in range nutrition and his Ph.D. in beef cattle science, all from Texas A&M Univer- sity. For 3 years, he has worked as a private consultant and contract researcher. Whitley previously worked for Dakota Beef as the director of livestock operations and executive vice president. CAAST is one of the Noble Foundation’s Centers of Excellence, which are focused on specifi c areas of research to help produce informa- tion applicable to agricultural producers. CAAST will conduct applied research focusing on agronomy, grazing systems, cover crops and cropping systems, range man- agement, soil health, and beef cattle management and technologies. in Lubbock, to Jerry Bernard Clayton and Mary Dickin- son Clayton. She graduated from Roswell High School and then earned an Associate’s degree from Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA. Anderson on March 26, 1951, in Hobbs, NM. They lived for a short time on the W.A. “Bill” Anderson ranch west of Lovington, NM, before moving to Borden County, TX,

Sheila married Buster Welch in 1972, and in 1974, they moved to the King Ranch, where Buster had been hired as trainer and consultant for the ranch’s Quarter Horse program. She is survived by her husband; sons, Ken Welch and wife, Dixie, Baird, and Dolin Morris and wife, Becky, Merkel; 3 daughters, Ruth Ann Siebers, Roscoe, Georgia Welch, Stanton, and Nina Finley and husband, David, San Angelo; and numerous other relatives.
