West One Bathrooms W

est one bathrooms evolved out of Evered Supplies Ltd, Founded by Anthony

Waters and Bill Evered in the early 1960s. The two split in 1978, each forming their own

company, which was when Antony waters founded West One Bathrooms. The rapid expansion of the company did not

really begin until the late 1990s when Anthony’s sons Kevin and Duncan had already been involved in the company for more than a decade, with the the opening of branches in Wandsworth in 1997 and Knightsbridge in 1999. This was followed by the takeover of another

bathroom firm in the south of France, JCD Cannes, in 2000. This fits with the parent

company’s profile of trading in wealthy areas, particularly as Monaco is on it’s door step. Branches in Tunbridge Wells (2004),

Clerkenwell (2010). Oxshott (2013) – which according to the Daily Telegraph, is “the village with the most footballers” – have followed in fairly quick succession. This summer also sees the opening of a branch in Notting Hill. One of the few examples of West One pulling

out of a branch was its former concession in Self-Ridges, explained as a move made “Because Selfridges used to be a department store but is now a fashion shop”. Quite why the expansion did not really begin until the 1990s and then accelerated rapidly is

hard to say, according to the Waters Brothers, although Kevin offers the view that is was in the 1990s “that people became more aware of the value of improving their bathrooms and kitchens, when it became fashionable to do so”. Whatever the reason, it’s been good news for

West One, which now has a total workforce of around 70 people.
