Thirty high growth, high potential young Irish companies with innovative solutions in the areas of business, mobile marketing, technology and various other creative areas made it through to the final.

Two rounds of pitching took place during the Web Summit with the grand final happening on the main stage in front of an audience of thousands of international start-ups and technology investors.

An expert panel of judges selected Grainne Barron’s fledgling company Viddyad as the overall winner.

Viddyad is the world’s first cloud-based collaborative video creation, editing and distribution platform for business with a built-in content library. The system offers up to 10 million videos and images to choose from through partnerships with a range of professional rights-cleared content stock providers, including Getty Images.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD rang the Nasdaq opening bell live on stage at the Web Summit

Aimed primarily at small to medium-sized enterprises, it’s free to sign up and to start creating ads. Prices start at US$99 to download a 10-second ad with video content and music and to which the user can add their own logo, images, text and so on.

Previous winners of the award include Datahug, which has since gone on to raise €6m in funding from Salesforce, DFJ and several others, and last year’s winner Smartthings, which has raised €3m in funding to date.

The award focuses on high potential technology start-ups and was open to any Irish start-up that has been in operation for less than three years and has received under €1m in funding to date. Entrants were judged on the uniqueness of their idea, their level of development so far and their potential for future growth.
