ORO2U moves into road market
On the expansion trail, distributer Off-Road Only used EXPO to launch into the road bike world, present a new website and rebrand as ORO2U, complete with a new logo. Accounts manager Tracie Zembrzuski added that the expansion includes buying a property five times bigger than the current premises at Llandrindod Wells, Powys. The new acquisition half a mile away requires renovation, which may take up to 12 months. Meanwhile, it’s business as usual, but on a bigger scale, said Tracie, who is masterminding the uploading of all of ORO2U’s 40,000 products on to the website. Supplying 2400 traders worldwide and with a staff of 25,
ORO2U reckons to have grown sales each year but sees adding road products as the key to substantial expansion. “Road product displayed at EXPO included Moto-Master brake components from Holland and IROD radiators from France. “Sales of new off-road bikes have gone down, but people are buying parts to do up old bikes. That has helped us,” said Tracie. “We do a vast range of products. We never stop looking, and we never stop buying. And our network has already taken on road product.” The UK’s biggest off-road components supplier, ORO2U is also experiencing greater demand for product from the agricultural, ATV and utility worlds. “That’s definitely on the up,” confirms Tracie. ORO2U, which started from a garden shed, produces its catalogues in-house – 900 pages for the off-road market and 500 pages for the ATV/utility market.
Kymco’s CCM teaser
Kymco importer MASCO displayed the new CCM GP450 adventure bike on its stand at EXPO, the connection being that Kymco of Taiwan makes the engine. It was natural to speculate that the CCM could be retailed via the MASCO network of 130 Kymco dealers, and indeed this was under discussion. But immediately following EXPO,
MASCO MD Ian Kidson said: “It is with regret that I have taken the decision not to formalise an agreement with CCM for the sales, marketing and distribution of the brand.” Kymco EXPO launches included a new flagship scooter, the Xciting 400i, due to arrive in May at £4999 retail. Kymco’s other big scooter, the 300cc Downtown, remains in the range. Kymco’s best seller is the Agility City scooter, one of nine 125cc machines in the company’s range. “The City will continue to gain sales, and 125cc scooter sales in general will grow,” said MASCO’s new dealer development manager Kevin Molloy, who was recruiting new dealers at EXPO and is keen to have greater Kymco presence in north London. Kymco is the winner of the 2013 BDN Scooter Franchise of the Year
award. The 2013 Kymco range comprises 12 scooters, four motorcycles and four ATVs.
New 450 adventure CCM features a T6 aluminium bonded frame. Dry weight is listed at 120kg. At the right price this machine may have great potential.
Pyramid DMS software debut
Making their EXPO debut were Jez Shave and Becky Roberts of Truetrack Software, in Newcastle-under- Lyme, Staffordshire. Their product was Pyramid, a web-based dealer management system that they created two years ago. Pyramid benefits include being able to run multiple dealerships from one base and put up stock online with ease. Shave previously worked for
ORO2U accounts manager Tracie Zembrzuski with new range of road bike product. This was the company’s fourth year at EXPO.
Catalyst Computer Systems, leaving four years ago to fly solo. He has recently installed systems for MotoGB’s seven-dealer network, Tamworth Yamaha, Motoretta (Halifax) and D&K (Stoke-on- Trent). “We offer bespoke and eBay solutions, e-commerce and support,” said Shave, who has 15 years’ experience of installing DMS systems and has set a target of taking on one extra dealer a month. In anticipation of growing the business he has increased the number of staff to four, Becky being responsible for sales, marketing, promotion and email campaigns. “Our system will run any business requiring stock control. integrated accounting and we can upload a dealer’s bikes to MCN, Autotrader and eBay. “We have three separate model files. Dealers can put the bike on the system and select the correct model. Two thousand ads go up every day,” added Shave, who can be contacted on 01782 338743;
