Japanese helmet brand Kabuto made one of the biggest impacts at EXPO 2013, launching into the UK market with the aid of a custom-built articulated truck complete with roof-top cafe, fold-out display deck and sound-proof meeting room. Kabuto, named after the helmet worn by Samurai warriors, used to be known as OGK – the company renaming itself in 2006 to better acknowledge its Japanese heritage. It

was founded in 1948, and started making motorcycle and bicycle helmets in 1982. Newly-appointed UK agent is Tom Walker, who has set up Kabuto’s UK office in

Harrogate, North Yorkshire. Walker has previously worked as a manager for Hein Gericke, as development manager for Lloyd Lifestyle and as managing director of clothing and accessories retailer Polo GMBH in Germany He is now working on a campaign to sign up between 50 and 60 Kabuto dealers across the UK, serviced by six area sales managers. “Kabuto is a premium brand helmet, so we are looking

for top quality dealers who can provide an excellent level of service,” said Walker. “Dealers can order any number of helmets – with

orders for more than six being carriage free. The European warehouse, located in the Netherlands, holds around 10,000 helmets in stock, so delivery to dealers takes only two days. Dealer margins are competitive, starting at 25 per cent and rising to 40 per cent for orders of 12 or more,” he added. The range currently consists of four models: FF5V,

Aeroblade III and Kamui full-face models, and the Avand II open-face. Retail prices range from £124.95 to £399.95. A flip-front and a motocross helmet are under development, and are expected to be available for the 2014 season. All comply with ECE standards, and come with an ACU Gold Label.
