Setting up for the year I

Out with the old and in with the new. The golf trade is being presented with a heck of a hardware line-up from the manufacturers for 2013. Here is just a selection of sets

n 2012, over 65% of core golfers (those who play at least 12 times a year) in the mature markets of the UK and Germany told SPORTS MARKETING SURVEYS INC. that having new clubs custom-fi t was either ‘Important’ or ‘Very important’. If more golfers can become better educated, this percentage will only rise, and it emphasises how critical it is for club professionals to off er a custom-fi tting service. It should be part of a complete

game improvement programme promoted in every pro shop, and it is a service that naturally engenders customer loyalty. It became clear in 2012 that

golfers are embracing the benefi ts of adjustable drivers, and there have never been more adjustable drivers on off er from the leading manufacturers than in 2013. TaylorMade has increased the range of fi tting with its new R1, while Ping has introduced an adjustable hosel

to its G series for the fi rst time, in the new G25. Incidentally, SMS INC. research shows that in 2012, in each of the UK, France, Germany and Scandinavia, the top four driver brands considered for purchase were TaylorMade, Ping, Callaway and Titleist. In 2013, a number of brands are threatening to break into that top four, not least Nike with its VR_S Covert, and Cobra with its new AMP Cell.
