through K to the top aft fuselage, add a bal- sa stringer down the centerline and cover with D4.
Complete the forward cockpit windshield by gluing W1 in place. W1 is made from thin manila folder cardboard with a 1⁄8×1⁄4- inch balsa strip glued down the centerline for support. Complete the aft cockpit by gluing pieces W2, also made from manila folder, into the cutouts in D4. W2 will curve inward to fit in the cutouts in formers G, H and I.
The cowl is built-up from 1⁄2-inch balsa sheet and carved to shape. The top half is glued to the model while the bottom half is
removable. The removable bottom half of the cowl has a 1⁄8-inch ply C1 former glued to the back. The two holes in C1 must align with the blind nuts in the firewall A. The un- usual shape of the lower forward fuselage is accomplished by adding ¹⁄₂-inch balsa pieces to the lower fuselage sides and sanding to shape as shown in View B-B on the drawing. These pieces extend from the fuselage nose to the wing leading edge. Sand, carve and hollow the cowl to shape. Make the balsa ra- diator as shown in View A-A and glue to the bottom of the cowl.
Test fit the engine in the cowl and drill mounting holes. Use a ¹⁄₂-inch shaft exten-
