Driver-less cars are the future

It may sound like something from a Bond movie but Internet giant Google has revealed huge success in vehicle automation – announcing that its automatic driving software has enabled cars to log over 140,000 hours on normal roads. These clever cars use built-in video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range to nav- igate, and could see the end of people having to do deliveries. General Motors says it expects to have fully automated cars on the road within the next decade.

Sitting pretty

Back ache could soon be a thing of the past and it could be your chair that is responsible. A German scientist, recog- nising that we all spend too long sitting in one position, has invented the Intelli Chair. This clever piece of kit works by emitting a noise to warn the user if

MOBILE MATTERS You may be surgically attached to your beloved mobile phone but a study has found that mobile devices are highly efficient at spreading germs and illness. Research published in the Journal of Applied Microbiology found that the prevalence of touch screen devices is partly to blame.

Q. We were looking at info on another company’s website a few months back, but the website has now been changed and the info has gone. Is there a way of seeing an older version of somebody’s site?

A. There are a couple of ways of doing this. If the site has only recently changed, Google keeps a ‘cache’ version of every site you visit, which is updated as you regularly trawl through the net. Visit Google and type the word cache: followed by the web address of the site. For example, type cache:www.executivepa.com to see a saved version of our website. Perhaps a better method is to use the ‘Wayback Machine’ at www.archive.org. It claims to have 150 billion web pages stored, dating back to 1996. And it’s free to use.
