The runners-up were Nichola Woods a Secretarial
Manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Andrew Turner, Executive Chairman of Central Trust Plc. But the winner of this category was Laura Ellis, Head of New Media at the BBC’s Birmingham offices. Laura was nom- inated by her PA Gill Thompson, who has worked for her for two and a half years. “She’s an excellent boss,” says Gill,” I was thrilled when Laura won – she thoroughly deserves the title. Her professionalism and optimism in everything she does combined with her compassion, kindness and sense of humour make it a pleasure to come to work each day.” Laura is equally as complementary about her PA.
Post-awards she comments: “I was so delighted to win this award. Gill is a brilliant PA and I’m incredibly touched that she took the trouble to nominate me. She and I are part of a team which is a great pleasure to work in, and the fun and positivity Gill mentions comes from everyone working hard, getting the most out of their skills and talent and supporting each other. I feel very much that this is an award that recognises the success of the whole department.”
Newcomer of the Year The penultimate award of the evening was that of Newcomer of the Year and this goes to the PA who has been in their role for less than four years. The award was sponsored by The Royal Garden Hotel and the prize was
a weekend break at the hotel for two with dinner at the hotel’s first class Asian restaurant, Ming Jang and two treatments in the Soma spa. The award was hotly con- tested and like the Executive PA Magazine: PA of the Year Award, saw our six finalists: Laura Maguire of Trader Media, Amie Watkins of CH&Co, Emma Conway of Adroit, Nicola James of Seren Group, Emese Burnip of PWC and Annalli Hamilton of Excell, visit the Royal Garden Hotel on the afternoon of the awards for a final round of judging. There could be only one winner and two runners-up and Nicola James and Laura Maguire were runners-up with Amie Watkins taking the top prize.
