Sensitive restoration for Wennington school

Refurbishment & new-build work at the University of Bath already boast BREEAM ‘Excellent’ ratings, and a substantial quantity of windows from Rationel Windows UK. The ALDUS product from Rationel has been specified to replace the original single-glazed units that had reached the end of their useful lives. This combination of timber frames with an exterior cladding of aluminium is particularly popular in high-rise developments, as the aluminium significantly reduces the maintenance demands, a crucial issue in this particular scheme. Top marks for Natura

Quadriga successfully tendered for restoration of the stonework and masonry of Wennington Hall School. The defective areas of masonry were cut out and repaired using restoration mortar. Such repairs were colour matched to the surrounding stonework as closely as possible. Areas of unstable or loose stonework were consolidated using grouting or pinning techniques. Grout was pumped into the unstable masonry structure to bind the masonry together while producing what is in effect an invisible repair. Pinning was used to fix loose pieces of masonry to the main wall and improve the stability of the substrate.
