NEWS Thank you 7,552 times
IN JUNE 2015 THE EVENTS COM- mittee of the Board of Directors invited all BMW MOA members with a current email address on file (about two-thirds) to participate in an important survey designed to find out more about you, your riding preferences and what events you would enjoy. You exceeded all expec- tations with an overwhelming 7,552 completed surveys! That is a fabulous response rate, and we can’t thank you too much for taking your time to help us improve your club experience in many new ways. However, at the moment, this
blessing of great amount of informa- tion is something of a challenge due to this huge response. The survey tool we used makes quick work of summarizing, ranking and graphing the objective yes/no and multiple- choice questions. However, because we wanted this to be a two-way con- versation, there were also seven open-ended questions; six specific questions, and one for any other comments you wanted to make. Taken together, our five-member
committee has approximately 12,000 com- ments to review, in addition to assessing the objective data. It is our intention to publish a summary of the survey some time this winter, but as you might now understand, it is going to take us a while to go through such a wealth of information. With the fading of the summer rally sea-
son, we started this process by looking at your responses to the general comment question, and have already found some very insightful observations and ideas. Whether for your response to this question or others, some of you may be contacted for further help and discussion. Please be assured that the BMW MOA respects your privacy. Your answers and comments will never be associated with your name or other membership information outside of the internal use of this committee, the Board or our office staff. Until we have completed our analysis,
we would like to share some of the interest- ing results. First, we truly are an interna- tional organization, as we received responses from 53 countries! You think the point is riding, because 43% of you ride 5,000 to 10,000 miles per year, 23% ride 10,000 to 20,000 miles per year and 5% ride
over 20,000 miles – 71% of our members ride over 5,000 miles per year! Although you seem to like rallies, campouts and other rider gatherings, 43% of you like to get there riding by yourselves. Thirty per- cent of you identify yourselves as touring riders, 23% as sport-touring riders and 13% as adventure riders. There is more revealed through this sur-
vey. One thing which doesn’t show up in these numbers is the large number of you who replied to the invitation email thank- ing us for the opportunity to be heard and the others who apologized for missing the survey because they were out riding! It’s clear from these messages, and the com- ments we’ve had the chance to review so far, that you believe in the MOA, that it’s important to you and that you are very sup- portive of efforts to move the club ahead. At the end of the day, our task is not only to consider your input and total the numbers, but also to take all these things together to see what they say about where we should direct the future of the club. Again, thank you all for participating and for your patience while we process all this wonder- ful information!
