loose with oil, white smoke and “curses spewing from my motorcycle.” The good news for Nelson was that he


broke down near a Japanese motorcycle dealership. After having Bob’s BMW ship the needed parts overnight, the next morning he spent two hours replacing the head gasket and head stud. When his new friends at the dealership


asked him why he was riding a 27-year-old motorcycle, Nelson pointed to his head gasket repair done in the time it would have taken them to remove the plastic and get to the head on their modern, multi- cylinder motors. They immediately understood. On the rest of his ride home, Nelson


said he lost no oil and the left cylinder stopped making the chuffing sounds as Nelson finished his trip at 80 mph. A sad obituary appeared in this issue as


Elizabeth Beach, described as the “pretty” half of the couple who founded Beach’s Motorcycle Adventure, had passed away following surgery. Described as a pioneer of all that women


can achieve, Elizabeth enlisted in the Navy where she taught instrument flying to pilots and after WWII, she joined the Army Reserve. Later, Elizabeth taught speech and drama and founded a Theater group. Owners News was once assembled on


the Beach’s kitchen table during the early days of the MOA. Said Sandy Cohen, “Most of us will


remember Liz as the “Grand Dame” of motorcycling; a woman of timeless beauty, class and good humor who taught us to reach beyond any barriers and even tour the world on a motorcycle.”
