Highmileage Another rider reaches 1.7 million miles

By Eric Peterson #15737 IN THIS ISSUE,

I HAVE THE

honor of adding another BMW MOA member to the elite level of 1.7 million BMW miles. Con- gratulations to Dave McQuee- ney of West Covina, California, for achieving this lofty plateau. The first entry I have for

McQueeney is from December 1994, when he sent Honor Roll volunteer Dave Mishalof his application for recognition of 700,000 BMW miles. Those miles began with an R 65 McQuee- ney bought at Iron Horse BMW in Tucson, Ari- zona, and picked up in Munich in 1981. Within 13 months he added another 50,000 miles was well on his way to 800,000. By Thanksgiving 1998 he was apparently busy

riding and it was not until 890,000 miles that he applied for his 800,000-mile recognition. The fol- lowing April McQueeney reached 900,000 miles. A couple of overseas rentals, including one in

Australia, added to McQueeney’s mileage num- bers, and in January of 2001 he reached the cov- eted level of one million miles aboard BMW motorcycles. Less than a year later he was at 1.1 million, just 13 months behind David Swisher, the first BMW MOA member to reach these levels. Additional documentation shows McQueeney

reaching 1.2 million miles about two years lat-er during a period which apparently included a 5,500 mile “test ride” on an R 1150 R! Nine months later and with the help of an Iron

Butt Rally, McQueeney achieved the 1.25 million mile plateau. On Memorial Day 2011 McQueeny reached 1.5

million miles aboard an R 100 GS and two years later, he reached the 1.6 million mile plateau. We have another member who has joined the elite Million Mile Club this issue.

Reno Del Ben submitted his very first High Mileage Honor Roll entry with

over 1,000,000 BMW miles on only two motorcycles. More than 900,000 of those were on a K 75 – can you say “Flying Brick?” While most of us won’t reach this many BMW miles, keep ridin’ and keep log-

gin’ your own mileage as these members did. Remember to keep logging your miles and join the High Mileage Honor Roll by

downloading and completing the application form from the MOA web page here: www.bmwmoa.org/?mileageawards

and look for the “Mileage Award

Application.” Ride Far, Ride Safe!
