their equipment as fast as possible without dam- aging the tools. Dynamic Motion technology cre- ates smooth motions that minimize lateral forces and avoid burying the tool in corners. To optimize the process, Shamrock works closely with Iscar Metals, its tool vendor, and Blaser Swisslube, its coolant supplier, to buy products that will comple- ment its fast-runtime objective.

Using Mastercam fi ve-axis CNC programming, Henry Lopez is able to program off-line to work in fi ner contouring detail to reduce run times at Shamrock Precision.

Because of the intelligence embedded in the software, these CAM programs are also much faster to write. To profi tably make the complicated parts their energy cus- tomers were looking for, Shamrock Precision needed to run

UNILOCK’S COMPREHENSIVE CLAMPING SYSTEM ENABLES 4-AXIS VMCs TO PERFORM 5-SIDED MACHINING

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR YOU:

+ Flexibility: The bottom of the clamping knob provides a uniform interface with the chuck; the topside is completely flexible

+ Repeatability: The knob also serves as the master datum— improving feature-to-feature accuracy

+ Productivity: Parts and fixtures stay clamped through sequential processes—so you can load, lock and start faster

+ Cost Savings: Modular workholding components reduce your overall fixturing costs and setup time

Optimal Dynamic Motion settings for a broad range of materials have been provided by Iscar and can be applied automatically from Master- cam’s tool library. Shamrock uses the recom- mended combination of cutting motion, cutting tool, and coolant to achieve the fastest, highest quality cutting action possible.

“Hard materials, especially Inconel, get very hot. Mas-

tercam’s Dynamic Motion, in combination with the six-fl ute tool, makes tiny chips that allow a well-chosen coolant to effi ciently remove heat from the cutting area,” Adair said.
