High Torque Retention Knob

The threads of a standard retention knob, when installed, place a torsional stress onto the thin walls of a toolholder, which causes the deformation of the precision taper of the toolholder and prevents the toolholder from properly mating with the spindle of a CNC machine. This expansion can reduce taper contact by as much as 70% and, therefore, no longer meets the AT3 taper tolerance specifications. (Referencing ISO 1947 angular taper tolerance (AT) specification for the toolholders is “AT3 or better”).

High Torque Retention Knobs use a precision pilot and a relief below the flange to place the force of the threads into a deeper cross-section of the toolholder. This patent-pending design, along with proper installation, will not deform the taper of the toolholder. High Torque Retention Knobs require a retention knob socket and torque wrench for installation. Packaging includes installation instructions and torque settings.
