SME SPEAKS
(Atlanta) and Frank Pfefferkorn, associate professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Wisconsin- Madison (Madison, WI), will also describe the program, the upcoming institutes and the developing activities of the network.
t For the first time, a panel session on effective teaching methods has been organized by NAMRI/SME Scientific Committee Chair Albert Shih, professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor, MI), and Hitomi Yamaguchi Greenslet, associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineer- ing at the University of Florida (Gainesville, FL). Presen- tations will explore the various methods of incorporat- ing video into lectures, active learning and exposing undergraduates to manufacturing research. Graduate students will also compete in the NAMRC Student Re- search Presentation Award where a panel of judges will evaluate their research and presentations; a first-place winner and two honorable mentions will be selected.
t Professor Shiv Kapoor, director of the Center for Ma- chine Tools Systems Research for the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Urbana, IL), will give the annual NAMRI/SME Founders Lecture at the NAMRI/SME Awards Luncheon. Founders Lectures range from historical NAMRC perspectives to in-depth topics on manufacturing technologies and advanced manufacturing research.
From the large number of students presenting and par- ticipating in the design competitions to attendees obtaining current advanced manufacturing information, maintaining technical skills and developing professional contacts, NAM-
RC 44 is the place to be June 27–July 1; I strongly encour- age everyone to attend! To learn more and/or to register, visit
