Passenger vehicles test for top speed and

acceleration in the same manner as motorcycles. The times and distances are measured to reach speeds of 60, 80 and 100 mph as well as 110 and 120 mph. Top speed is measured the same as the motorcycles. The braking area at Chrysler in Chelsea uti-

lizes a 1.56-mile concrete straightaway which is completely fl at, taking into consideration the curvature of the earth. The deceleration rate is attained by passenger cars by performing twenty 60-0 full ABS stops. The distance to stop and deceleration rate are recorded for the test book. In 2014, MSP tested 14 passenger cars. Chev-

rolet submitted their Caprice, Impala and Tahoe. They included their all-new 4WD pursuit-rated Tahoe. Dodge submitted their Charger in four different platforms, including the AWD model. Ford submitted the Police Interceptor sedan and Utility in a variety of platforms including AWD versions of both vehicles. Seven motorcycles were tested this year.

BMW submitted their R1200RTP, Harley- Davidson submitted the FLHP Road King® and FLHTP Electra Glide®

A second version of the Electra Glide®

Police Motorcycles. motor-

cycle was submitted which had performance upgrades. Moto Guzzi submitted the California 1400 and Norge 1200. The new manufacturer to the test this year was Can-Am who submitted the Spyder RTP. After the testing is fi nished each passenger

car is tested for ergonomics. Fourteen offi cers independently compared and scored each test vehicle on comfort, instrumentation and visibility. Installation and communications were evaluated by personnel from the com- munications section of Michigan Department of Information Technology. Once all the aforementioned testing is

fi nished, the information is put into an orderly format and both printed and placed on the Internet. The purpose is so other law enforce- ment agencies can learn what is available for their offi cers so they can do their job the most effectively and safely.
